Some time back I drove the Mahindra KUV100 and was blown away by what it could offer and its incredible price point, now, Mahindra has updated its KUV100 with the new NXT model. Adding further style with the likes of a redesigned grille, LED daytime running lights, newly designed fog lamp surrounds, and even a new-shape tailgate with spoiler, all help add to what is an uber practical and affordable refreshed compact car.

Unbeatable Value

The model line-up starts with the petrol-powered K2+ derivative, which retails for R137,999 (Incl.VAT) and even at this very budget friendly price includes a lot of kit. Many features come as standard and these even include:

  • Driver and passenger airbags
  • ABS
  • Air-con
  • A gearshift indicator
  • Rear-seat underfloor storage

2While the most entry spec model in the KUV100 range offers a lot, when you move further up the model line-up, Mahindra has added further impressive elements, such as:

  • Piano black stylish interior panelling
  • A cooled glove box
  • Remote keyless entry
  • Speed-sensing door locks
  • Rear park sensors with distance proximity
  • Auto folding mirrors

The K8 derivative even features the likes of Mahindra’s touchscreen-based 7-inch multimedia system (with Bluetooth, a USB port and a wide host of media sources supported). The KUV100 NXT is all about being feature packed while not breaking the bank.

3The Drive

As previously available within the Mahindra KUV100 range, there is a choice of 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol and turbodiesel engines. The mFalcon G80 naturally-aspirated petrol unit produces 61 kW and 115 Nm, and D75 turbodiesel sibling generates 57 kW and 190 Nm. Both engines send their power through a 5-speed manual transmission, and both manage to feel responsive, in part due to the KUV100 NXT’s light and nimble body.

On the range-topping K8 turbodiesel, the engine features the further efficient traffic stop-start technology. Mahindra claims a fuel consumption figure of 5.9 L/100km for this engine, a figure which can be closely matched in the real world.

Real World Practicality

Impressive ride height with an above average 170mm ground clearance within its class and a high roofline all help make for what is a truly practical vehicle which will seat 4 adults in comfort.

Even despite its smaller exterior appearance, Mahindra has managed to cleverly package what is a very space practical vehicle and one which offers a loading bay of a claimed 243 litres, which increases to 473 litres when the rear seats are folded flat.
