The French have always been good at thinking outside of the box. You just need to think back to the very French and special Citroën DS “The Goddess” to understand what I am talking about. Bold stylish designs, which are two parts concept, to one part reality often seem to make it to the market. It’s a good job if you ask me, just look at the gorgeous new Peugeot 3008.

Gone are the old 3008 MPV lines. The new vehicle is a thoroughly modern SUV with wider, more imposing proportions. The new 3008 design features cutting-edge style both inside and out bringing concept lines to life. Along with the space-age visage, the 3008 has grown in overall body proportions. The result is an increase in boot space and in overall passenger leg-room, particularly notable in the rear of the cabin.

1The interior space feels incredibly futuristic. Dressed in either partial cloth and leather or a full leather interior, space is adorned with soft-touch premium materials, a wealth of different materials and satin silver panels which really add to the overall sense of luxury and style.

3The cabin or rather “cockpit” is very driver focused, a feature which is further made apparent with what Peugeot term the i-Cockpit. A small squared-off steering wheel, large paddles and a beautiful large full-colour instrumentation cluster and central media display add to the spacecraft nature of the new 3008.

With the cutting-edge design, comes a wealth of new safety systems.  The 3008 features 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, electronic stability control and traction control. Also on offer is driver attention alert, lane departure warning and road sign detection. Suitable for the whole family, the 3008 also features ISOFIX child seat mounts across the range.

The GT Line+ derivative adds additional features including an advanced brake assistant, front collision warning and active blind spot detection.

All spec models and 3008 derivatives feature 1.6-litre engines in either petrol or the recently introduced diesel equivalent. I spent the week with the turbopetrol motor which develops 121 kW and 240 Nm of torque and has the power mated through a smooth shifting 6-speed automatic gearbox. The turbodiesel motor with 100 kW has also recently been introduced within SA.
