Who Needs One?
If you have a large family, run an Uber service or shuttle transfer business and want to move around in comfort and on a “shoestring” budget, the Ertiga might be your answer.
With space to carry five adults in complete comfort and two smaller occupants with the rear third row of seating, the Suzuki Ertiga blends the best of real-world practicality and versatility. Going up against the likes of the popular Toyota Avanza and Honda BR-V for instance, the Ertiga packs a very impressive interior space and versatility. A high roofline as we see in Suzuki vehicles across the board blended with 130 mm longer and 40mm wider body leads to what is a truly versatile platform, while an overall body track which has remained unchanged makes for a vehicle which is easy to move around town.
Thanks to very large “limousine” style doors which open at almost 90 degrees, loading the second and third row of the vehicle remains a total breeze. Dropping the seats flat can also be achieved with ease on both rear rows, which is further complemented by a wealth or storage spaces and even two clever compartments within the boot floor.
The Ertiga is powered by Suzuki’s new K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine. Power-generation comes in the way of 77 kW and 138 Nm of torque. Further aiding smooth power delivery is the vehicles light and nimble body despite its size and power driven through its 5-speed manual transmission.
Despite being a van with larger dimensions, the drive of the Ertiga very much mimics the youthful and competent feel that you receive when driving the likes of the latest-generation Suzuki Ertiga and Swift models.
The Simple Stuff
Multimedia and entertainment are not the Ertiga’s most highlighted points, with the vehicle featuring a rather simplistic monochromatic media interface floating centrally within the dashboard.
Despite the simplicity of the media system, once your device is paired, you have media streaming made available through the likes of Bluetooth, steering-wheel-mounted media controls and easy reach of the airconditioning controls as well as charging sockets and a USB port. The result is a simple, yet very functional media offering.
Verdict & SA Pricing
This latest-generation Ertiga manages to package simple real-world practicality with very achievable fuel efficiency and what is a refreshingly affordable way to get big bang for your bucks. Despite the competitive segment in which it sits, Suzuki has managed to offer the Ertiga with pricing starting from a very reasonable R239,900 and backed by the manufacturers 5-years/200 000km warranty and a 4-years/60 000km service plan. When you take the whole package into mind, whether you are wanting a family mover, shuttle or anything that requires space, the Ertiga is pretty hard to beat.
