They say that orange is the new black. This is certainly the design philosophy which has given birth to the limited edition Renault Captur Sunset edition.

captur-tb1Rumoured to be limited to just 100 vehicles, the limited edition Captur Sunset is as bold, as it is unique.

The Renault Captur is based on the Renault Clio model and as a result, you will immediately notice the similarities in terms styling. The most notable difference between the Captur and the Clio comes in the way of the Captur’s increased ride height and overall more muscular appearance.

captur-tb2Introducing the diesel power

With the introduction of the Captur Sunset edition, Renault South Africa introduced the Captur range to the new 1.5-litre dCi. This turbocharged diesel powerplant produces 66 kW of power and 220 Nm of torque. When you drive the Captur, you notice that its power delivery is smooth and consistent, but what makes this engine most impressive comes in the way of its consumption.

Renault claim that the Captur 1.5 dCi engine is capable of delivering a fuel consumption figure of only 3.6 L/100 km.  This consumption figure is even more impressive than the claimed consumption figure of one of the world’s most recognised hybrid vehicles, the Toyota Prius, which claims a consumption of 3.7 L/100 km.

Generally, most drivers including myself are quick to shoot down manufacturer consumption claims. The published averages are produced as a result of very specific “lab” style testing conditions, making it near impossible to achieve the manufacturer claims in real life situations. With the Captur, however, I have spoken to a fellow motoring journlaist able to achieve a figure which is actually less than Renault claims. I was able to average 5.7 L/100 km in dense traffic situations over my week of testing.

The Ride Quality

The Captur offers a smooth and comfortable ride with the added benefit of increased ride height over its sibling, the Clio. While both the Clio and Captur offer similar road comfort and drive, I found the Captur to really iron over and diminish the bumps within the road surface, making it great for those rougher road surfaces.

Shines From The Outside To The Inside

In terms of the cabin, the Sunset edition introduces exciting splashes of orange and black. I love the athletic styled parcel nets behind the driver and passenger front seats for example. It is also notable the way in which Renault have made use of seat covers which can be un-zipped, removed and cleaned, this makes the Captur the perfect life companion.

captur-tb3Rear passenger space is very acceptable within this segment and the Captur offers a boot with dimensions of 377 litres with all seats folded up and as much as  1235 litres with the rear seats folded flat. The rear seats fold in the standard 60:40 split, and the boot offers a false floor perfect for stowing small parcels.

captur-tb4captur-tb5The Captur features the Renault MediaNav 7-inch touch screen based multimedia interface. The System is simple to use and remains very colourful and content rich. Media is delivered through either Bluetooth streaming, radio, and an upfront USB slot.

The Captur system also features satellite navigation. Other driver convenience features within the system include a backing-up camera for reversing into tricky spaces.

Pricing and Safety

The vehicles features many safety systems as standard including ABS, EBD, and a brake assist, tyre pressure monitoring and hill assist control system.

The Renault Captur Sunset edition costs R292 400. It is sold with a 5-year/150 000 km warranty, 3-year/45 000 km service plan and 6-year anti-corrosion warranty.Service intervals are set 15 000/1-year intervals.

The standard edition Renault Captur 66 kW dCi Dynamique is priced at R289 900, and Renault South Africa have already sold over 5,000 of them since launch, marking an example of the vehicles success and popularity.

To End The Day Off

The Renault Captur Sunset edition is something unique and will give you the exclusivity to be able to drive a vehicle which stands out from the crowd. With its overall solid offering, vibrant looks and unique colour scheme, it was certainly able to win over my heart.
