- F-PACE to make South African debut at Jaguar Simola Hillclimb
- Jaguar’s first-ever SUV combines sports car dynamics and everyday practicality
Pretoria, 25 April 2016 – Motorsport lovers, car fans and attendees at the 2016 Jaguar Simola Hillclimb are in for a treat. On Saturday, 7 May, Jaguar South Africa will take the wraps off the All-New Jaguar F-PACE – marking the official local debut of this highly anticipated model.
Jaguar’s first-ever SUV is set to be unveiled to the public during a pause in the racing activities, giving both spectators and racers a chance to see its grand entrance. Following this it will make its maiden voyage up the Simola hill to the display area in Gasoline Alley.
“We’ve previously used the Jaguar Simola Hillclimb to introduce new models, but the level of anticipation for the F-PACE makes this the most exciting unveiling, yet,” says Lisa Mallett, Marketing Director of Jaguar Land Rover South Africa and sub-Sahara Africa. “This is Jaguar’s first sports utility vehicle. It offers drivers everyday practicality and vast amounts of space, while remaining every bit a Jaguar when they get behind the wheel.”
The F-PACE is a performance car designed and engineered to offer the agility, responsiveness and refinement that all Jaguars are renowned for, together with unrivalled dynamics, the latest technology and everyday versatility.
It is built on the company’s Lightweight Aluminium Architecture, and retains bold styling cues that make it undeniably a Jaguar. On the road it will have tremendous presence thanks to the slender full-LED headlights, short front overhang, powerful rear haunches, distinctive taillight graphics, and a sleek aerodynamic design that delivers a drag coefficient of just 0.34.
With seating for five occupants – including best in class legroom for rear passengers – the luxurious interior is a perfect blend of premium materials and finishes, as well as exquisite detailing. Passengers will have access to heated- and electrically reclining rear seats, while drivers benefit from cutting-edge technologies like the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, a 12.3-inch HD virtual instrument cluster, and a laser head-up display. F-PACE will also introduce Jaguar’s revolutionary Activity Key – a wearable accessory that also serves as a key fob, designed for those with active lifestyles.
Providing power will be Jaguar’s leading range of diesel and petrol engines, which will allow the F-PACE to reach 100km/h in just 5.5 seconds, or achieve CO2 emissions as low as 139g per kilometre.
Ensuring that it retains Jaguar’s sporting credentials are the F-TYPE-derived double wishbone front suspension and sophisticated Integral Link rear suspension. Together with Torque Vectoring by Braking and the class-leading Electric Power Assisted Steering, the All-New F-PACE sets the benchmark for ride and handling.
Power will be transferred through Jaguar’s most sophisticated torque-on-demand all-wheel drive (AWD) system yet, featuring the Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) system first developed for the Jaguar F-TYPE R AWD Coupé. IDD preserves rear-wheel-drive agility and handling character but can seamlessly transfer torque to the front wheels to exploit the performance benefits of extra traction, on all surfaces and in all weathers.
F-PACE will also feature another world-class technology developed for adverse conditions: All Surface Progress Control (ASPC). To make the most of the available grip, ASPC automatically controls the throttle and the brakes, enabling the vehicle to pull away smoothly: the driver just has to steer. ASPC functions between 3.6km/h and 30km/h, and the driver selects the desired speed using the cruise control switches.
