The Hyundai brand has proved their winning formula with the likes of the of the Tucson and Creta. We attended the launch in Cape Town of their facelifted and ever-popular two SUV’s.

But what is it? Having been In global market since 2005 and its name derived from Tucson City in Arizona and it’s now on its Third Generation offerings update.

Tucson-1But what’s new: Front and rear bumpers are revised with new rear and front LED Lights, the new Distinctive hexagonal grille is hard to miss, Multi-function Steering with driver focus functionalities.

USB, Aux, iPod connectivity, Bluetooth as a well as App connect that mirrors your music, navigation, calls and messages to the new floating 7-inch infotainment screen, Push to start button with keyless entry, Glove Box Cooling, Cruise Control as well as Blind Spot Detection.

Tucson-3My Test unit on Launch was capable 1.6T GDI Elite engine mated with 7 Speed smooth shifting  Dual Clutch Transmission Gear Box.

Park Distance Control with Camera, big Panoramic Roof that covers whole roof as well as cool 19-inch alloys.

Safety is in the form of 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, Anti-lock brake system and Electronic Brake Distribution, Traction Control, all these safety features contribute in granting the new Hyundai Tucson impressive 5 star Euro NCAP rating.

But how does it’s drive?

Good, firm suspension, impressive acceleration from the 1.6 Turbocharged engine, it comes alive more when “Sport” Mode engaged, Handles very impressively too with zero tyre screech, my driving partner on Launch looked like he was enjoying it a lot in Franschhoek Pass Twisties.

It absorbs the dirt road bumps quite impressive even though it’s riding on low profiled 19”s shoes, the Dirt roads of Botrivier the other side of Caledon were met and conquered by this impressive Korean engineered machinery.

Tucson-2Any negatives?  There was no navigation, you have to make use of the navigation provided within your smartphone working in conjunction with App Connect and no all-wheel drive derivative across the Range for a South African market as well as no paddle-shifters.

Verdict: This is good looking and well built inside out compact SUV with lucrative warranty deals! Buy it! It also happens to be one my Favorite SUV” s, Love at a first drive kind of vibes.
