The Toyota Etios has concreted its name as a staple in Toyota South Africa’s passenger vehicle stable and as a solid, reliable and affordable vehicle seen commonly on our roads, I spent some time enjoying an exquisite lunch while nestled in the absolutely beautiful Constantia Winelands, and some time driving the limited edition Etios Sport to find out what it offers.

Key Visual Changes

The Etios Sport features a striking two-tone colour scheme. Available in either Glacier White or Retro Red, the blackened roof, mirror housings, rear spoiler, grille elements and new alloy wheels all help in complimenting its sporting appeal.

Etios Sport_0003The Etios sport rides on 185/60/R15 tyres and features a multispoke design 15-inch alloy wheel, all of which adds up to its comfortable on-road handling and feel as well as sportier nature.

Etios Sport_0096Inside the cabin, the Etios Sport features Toyota’s new Optitron instrument cluster which now features across the Etios range and displays a vibrant smooth sweeping rev-counter and modern backlit illumination. The improved new dashboard perfectly compliments the sense of space within the cabin and the Etios offers a boot which measures in at a generous 562-litres of luggage loading capacity.

Power Delivery

All powered by its 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine, the Etios Sport produces 66 kW at 5600 rpm and 132 Nm at 3000 rpm. All of the power is mated through a 5-speed manual transmission driving the front wheels. The Etios Sport feels well weighted and manages to deliver a comfortable balance of road holding appeal and overall ride softness.

Etios Sport_0079Safety

The Etios achieves a very impressive 4-star Global NCAP safety star rating. With active and passive safety systems including:

  • Driver and Passenger airbags
  • ABS, EBD
  • Seat belts with pre-tensioners and force limiter as well as ISOFIX provision

All of which add to the Etios peace of mind motoring.
