This write-up is going to be a short one because the video tells the whole story! The Volkswagen transporter is one of the most iconic quintessentially important vehicles of all time. Transporters have been a big part of creating memories for decades. Available in so many different body styles, formats and choices there really is one for every occasion, and this is the latest, the T6.1.

Why T6.1 and not T7?

This is an evolution of the beloved Volkswagen T6 bus. The T6.1 features a distinct new-look grille and bumper, as well as extensive chrome detailing. There are also new LED daytime running lights. Volkswagen is offering a choice of 6 new wheel designs, 6 new colours and 7 2-tone paint finishes.

An evolution of the T6, this T6.1 also features a more modernised interior cabin space which feels much more in keeping with the latest-generation Volkswagen vehicles such as the Polo and Golf, with its driver-focused digital instrument cluster and modernised proximity-based multimedia display with the likes of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety is also on point with the likes of Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Automatic Post-Collision Braking (also standard), Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Assist (for 4MOTION all-wheel drive), Tyre Pressure Loss Indicator, Lane Assist, the standard cruise control system inclusive of speed limiter and parking assistant Park Assist.

Optional safety systems include Trailer Assist and the advanced main-beam control system Light Assist.

Engine Details

Kicking off the range is the 2.0-litre TDI with 81 kW and 250 Nm with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Next up and as tested is the 2.0-litre TDI which delivers 110 kW and 340 Nm and is available with a 7-speed gearbox. With the latter as driven, power delivery was completely effortless and the 7-speed gearbox, well, VW always amazes with their gearboxes, in the T6.1 is completely seamless.

What variations can you get?

  • 1 Pick Up

Take it from me, or get the info from someone else, the Volksie bus has been doing it for generations and it will continue to keep doing it. Creating smiles, creating memories, shaping family adventures. It remains one of my all-time faves
